Tapered springs are used in a wide range of devices, from automobile engines and large printing presses to conventional lawn mowers, medical equipment, mobile phones and even the usual TV remotes. The tapered spring is most often used in equipment with limited axial space, requiring high vibration resistance.

In the case of the tapered spring or conical spring, the diameter of the design changes towards one end. That means it gets bigger or smaller. Tapered springs are mainly used when the installation space is limited in the axial direction. For tapered springs, the coils can fall into one another. This means that the block height is roughly twice the wire thickness and is therefore much smaller than that of cylindrical compression springs.
